As Canada turns 102, a fresh new face arrives. Honda Canada is founded, starting small with motorcycles and power equipment.

Our Civic Duty

We launch the Honda Civic in Canada, introducing Canadians to the small but powerful, fuel-efficient subcompact – a welcome addition to the market in the midst of an oil crisis.

Big Engine, Small Emissions

We launch Honda’s revolutionary CVCC engine, making the Civic the first car to meet tough emissions standards without a catalytic converter.

To give Canadians an option with slightly more space, the Accord comes to Canada.

Our Starting Line

We open our facility in Alliston, Ontario, the first automobile manufacturing plant by a Japanese company in Canada. The first car built? A Honda Accord.

Acura joins the scene, becoming the first luxury nameplate from a Japanese automaker in Canada.

The Start of Something Beautiful

We start building the three-door Honda Civic in Alliston, Ontario, becoming the primary supplier of these models to North America.

Taking over the roads, the one-millionth Honda vehicle is sold in Canada.

Hitting a major milestone, the millionth Honda built in Canada rolls off the line in June.
